Saturday's HC Ride (Sept. 28, 2008)

We stopped at the Hard Times Cafe. This is the Ham's Bear. He's been demoted from serving as a famous beer mascot to dispensing free condoms.


After the ride, I looked around the shop. They received a few Rawlands frames. Mark was in the process of building this one. I really like the fork crown and rear dropouts.





I also like these white Schwalbe tires. I've seen them before, but I thought they were only available in 559 (26"). I feel silly when I say SCHWAL-BEE. Its that the right way to pronounce the name?



Then I found them in 622 (700c). Tires are fun. These are on my list now.



This old Continental is very nice. I'm fighting the urge.

How many bikes does a person need? That's a rhetorical question, please don't try to answer.

    I learned a new Algebraic formula this weekend as to the proper number of bike one needs:

    a + 1 = b

    where 'b' is your current number of bike you need and 'a' is the amount you currently own.

    I just bought a Rawland not too long ago from HC. Had it built as a 650B fat tire All-rounder bike more than a mtb. Beautiful bike.
    Have not had a chance to ride much on it tho yet. I actually traded in that Schwinn Continental on the Rawland. The Schwinn also was real nice riding. Heavy, but nice riding.

    I should clarify that anonymous also included some money with his side of the trade. Don't tell him, but if he'd have haggled a bit, I'd have taken the Schwinn straight-up for the Rawland.

    This is the first I've heard of Rawland Bicycles. I spent about 20 minutes looking at the website. Very cool company and some innovative designs. Very cool!

    My wife thinks the Algebraic formula looks more like this:

    a + 1 = b - 1

    I was never any good at word problems.

    Straight up for the Rawland, I didn't even think of that option.
    Now that I think of it, you probably should have been more forth coming with that bit of info :)

    Rawland seemed to have made quite an impression on a number of people out at Interbike, and it all seems favorable so far.

    BTW - Jim & Mark, thx for the great bike and perfect build.
    I look forward to many miles on it.
    I did decide to lower the bars one more spacers worth after all, and I like the feel of that better.

    I hope to get on a Sat. morning HC ride soon.
