Camping was a Success

As usual, the camping trip was great. The boys ran around in the woods like wild animals. They caught tadpoles and crawdads. They were as dirty as pigs. They sharpened sticks and I half expected it to turn into Lord of the Flies, but they didn't have any enemies to fight. It was primal.

Each year before going on this trip, I feel indifferent to canoeing. When I get in the boat and start down the St. Croix river, my indifference melts away and I realize I enjoy canoeing very much. I have thoughts of getting a canoe and how to transport it.

When I get home, I see my bicycles and realize canoeing would take away time for riding.

My son is the guy in the front of this canoe with the paddle (not the red head). My son thought canoeing was boring until he got to steer. I let him paddle in back and he did a great job.

I love canoing, but I don't get the chance to do it often. Perhaps now that my girls are getting older...

Canoing is a fantastic way to enjoy a lake with another person (or two). It's pretty easy, it's relatively calming, and you can move along at a good clip if you want.

Ahhh, canoeing. That takes me back to a week-long girl scout canoe trip I went on once. I steered the whole time, I might add. My canoemate didn't want to, silly girl.

Steering is the place to be. The position of POWER!!! (<---said in echoing superhero voice)

Scorpion: You city boy! It can be easy and it can be difficult. We had to turn around on Saturday. A wind storm pushed us backwards upstream. Very weird.

eclectchick: Week-long trip? Did anyone get disappeared? (<-- spoken in an East Coast mobster accent)

That's too long to put up with _anyone_ in the woods.

I wanted to get outdoors more. I debated, canoe or bicycles. Canoe or bicycles.

Bicycles won, and I'm glad. But a canoe sounds so nice.
