More Glove Talk

My search for the right cycling gloves reminds me of some old Cannondale gloves I used to own. They were made of really nice leather and lots of it. They had multiple layers of rich looking, dark brown leather. They had crocheted backs and lasted forever. They were so thick, they felt like pulling on small baseball mitts.

Because they lasted so long, mine were very nasty given the years of sweat they absorbed. When I wiped my brow, I gagged at the smell as they passed near my nose. But I loved those gloves. Cannondale stopped making them when lycra took over. I checked their website and only found the typical lycra-based gloves that I go through like toilet paper.

Do you have any favorite gloves that are durable?

Have you tried the Planet Bike mesh back gloves we have here at HC? they are pretty nice, and have kevlar in the palm so you can stop bullets or something.

I never washed my cycling gloves before I got married. they were well made and all the sweat and salt I swear held everything together. Once they got washed, they fell apart

I like the mechanic style gloves you can get at Home Depot. As a trades men, I'd never be caught with these "sissy" gloves on my hand. As a cyclist, I think their pretty bitchen. Especially when you find the ones that are all black.

I bought a pair of cheap mechanics gloves too, and I've found them to be very good. We don't have Home Depot down here, but they probably came from the same factory in China.

Unless it's cold, bare hands for me. At least they get washed regularly.

I got some of the old style crochet back ones from the bike shop in Roseville, MN (sorry don't recall the name, not from MN) They are from Trek.
